It was very odd to see Trump’s travel ban cause so much controversy in liberal circles. Liberals are obsessed with race and will pounce on any opportunity to call Republicans racist. We know that. However, this travel ban was perfectly reasonable from the jump. It simply paused immigration from places that lacked a stable government and posed a potential threat to the United States according to President Obama.
David French wrote a great piece when this hullabaloo started heating up.
From National Review:
The bottom line is that Trump is improving security screening and intends to admit refugees at close to the average rate of the 15 years before Obama’s dramatic expansion in 2016. Obama’s expansion was a departure from recent norms, not Trump’s contraction. Second, the order imposes a temporary, 90-day ban on people entering the U.S. from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. These are countries either torn apart by jihadist violence or under the control of hostile, jihadist governments.
We have seen liberal activist judges across the country try to stop Trump’s travel plan including two rogue judges in Hawaii who just can’t seem to get their heads around the fact that Trump won the election and gets to make the rules now.
On Monday, an appeals court actually got it right.
From The Daily Caller:
A U.S. appeals court in California on Monday let President Donald Trump’s latest travel ban go partially into effect, ruling the government can bar entry of people from six Muslim-majority countries with no connections to the United States.
A three-judge panel of the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals partially granted a Trump administration request to block at least temporarily a judge’s ruling that had put the new ban on hold. Trump’s ban was announced on Sept. 24 and replaced two previous versions that had been impeded by federal courts.
The action means the ban will apply to people from Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and Chad who do not have connections to the United States.
A Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel granted a portion of the Justice Department’s request for an emergency stay of a Hawaii federal judge’s order that prevented the Trump administration from moving forward with plans to limit issuance of visas to six majority-Muslim nations: Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.
The ruling is at least a temporary victory for what Trump says is an effort to restrict immigration to fight terrorism. Critics have blasted the various iterations of the policy as thinly-veiled versions of the Muslim ban Trump promised while a candidate last year.
It’s time to get our immigration system in order.
Thank goodness President Trump understands that.
It would be nice if we could just let everyone come here without having to think twice about it. We simply don’t live in a world where that is practical.
A month ago, Americans had no idea that our country let people in on a lottery basis every year from places that don’t like us. Then, an Uzbek national murdered 8 people in Lower Manhattan with a truck and that glaring issue with our immigration system was brought to light.
Good day for the Trump team and the country in general.
